One year after her divorce Hazel finally has to leave her apartment on the Upper East Side. And if that wouldn’t be enough her publisher is not willing to delay the deadline for her new book any further. On impulse she decides to buy a house in a small town in Pennsylvania and start her new life there. Once she arrives Hazel realizes that the house and the town itself are nowhere as thriving as she expected. But at least she finds inspiration in the hot but grumpy guy who happens to be part of the only contractor company in town.

As I really enjoyed the authors style of writing the book had me hooked almost on the first page. I loved that it was written from both perspectives so we could get more insight in their thoughts and motivations. Hazel is the typical main character that goes through a phase in their life where everything goes wrong. It’s a bit over the top but at least it gives a lot of room for improvement. While we definitely see a love story between her and Cam there are also quite a few side quests that don’t really add to their relationship development. Instead they give you more background to the town and all of its inhabitants. Sometimes that’s quite interesting but other times the town and all its weird quirks are just a bit too much. For me personally there were some „Fremdschämen“ moments where I just didn’t get the authors sense of humor. Other than that I really liked Cam and his entire family. They were the typical small town family that sticks together and helps each other out whenever they can. He could have had a bit more depth but nevertheless I really enjoyed the chapters from his perspective.

Overall its a typical small town romance in a town that has quite a few weird quirks. Personally I would rate it 3,5 stars and recommend the story to anyone who’s looking for a quick read and enjoys this kind of humor.
