My first thoughts while reading:
I only just started The Maid and I am already struggeling hard. Molly pretends like she is not judgy but the hell she is.
Also low key getting the vibe she has some form of autism but it feels so unnaturally written and from what I have seen Nita Prose just calls her "socially awkward". Don't know how I feel about that.
Also, I don't feel like Nita Prose has first hand (or even second hand) experience of working in an upper class London Hotel. You know why? Because I worked in several of these Hotels and know what it is like.
10 % I can already tell there is a tone of subtle offensive stuff in this book.
Softly DNF'ing it at 17%. I will pick it back up when the audiobook is available and give it another shot.
FAZIT: So, after I picked this book back up with the audiobook I can confirm that it was in fact, not the book for me. I feel like this book was not well researched and fell flat when it come to building an actual plot as well as fully realize the characteristics of the protagonist Molly.

Ich habe gerade erst mit The Maid angefangen und kämpfe bereits hart. Molly tut so, als wäre sie nicht wertend, aber zum Teufel ist sie es.
Auch zurückhaltend, wenn man die Stimmung bekommt, dass sie eine Form von Autismus hat, aber es fühlt sich so unnatürlich geschrieben an, und von dem, was ich gesehen habe, nennt Nita Prose sie einfach "sozial unbeholfen". Ich weiß nicht, wie ich darüber denke.
Außerdem habe ich nicht das Gefühl, dass Nita Prose Erfahrungen aus erster Hand (oder sogar aus zweiter Hand) mit der Arbeit in einem Londoner Hotel der gehobenen Klasse hat. Warum? Weil ich in mehreren dieser Hotels gearbeitet habe und weiß, wie es wirklich ist.
Ich kann schon sagen, dass in diesem Buch ein subtil anstößiger Ton steckt.
Sanft DNF'ing bei 17%. Ich werde es nachholen, wenn das Hörbuch verfügbar ist, und es noch einmal versuchen.
