Good beginning, but then it goes downhill

The prolog begins with a traffic accident in San Francisco that leads to chaos on Golden Gate Bridge and to a case that is so horrible that I could not stop reading:
Two young people are found in pieces in the car. And mean "in pieces": It turns out that they had bombs in their bellies, which exploded and tore them apart.

Patterson just pulls you into the scenario: He writes very descriptively and also captures the characters in an interesting way that makes you want to read out more. That is why I wanted to continue reading. It was very good!

But the rest of the book contains part, which are a bit disappointing. I thought everything would revolve completely around the first case. But no, he introduces several new characters and cases.

The chapters are short, which makes "Unlucky 13" a quick and suspenseful read. But still I find the book less compelling that I thought. I especially did not like the part with the journalist trying to find a female killer. She almost catches her by accident, which is not a good way to write a crime novel.

So I cannot really recommend this one.
